Window update


I missed a couple of months in my documentation of the seasonal changes outside my window last year (or was it the year before? My how time flies when one is bored...). So I'm doing a series of daily snapshots now. It's not as if I was busy or anything (see next post)...

Violin encounter


Let's see if I got this straight: You're supposed to spend years of practice before you subject an audience to your interpretation of squeaky toy improvisation, but when you touch a violin for the first time, you might as well let the world see it, since it's not one of those complicated things that require learning. Right?
My grandmother was well on her way to becoming a concert violinist when she was snatched into matrimony to spend the rest of her life as a pastor's wife raising eight children. She had a perfect ear and high standards regarding music and is probably very angry at me right now. Sorry, mummu! May you rest in peace. I will not mess with your violin again.

Wasted most of this summer practicing my guitar. 30 years of torturing the thing and I still feel like a beginner - I just fumble faster than I used to. If this is the fabled Beginner's Mind that Zen masters speak of, I have forgotten to pack the enlightenment that is supposed to go with it...
