Performance

Perhaps this silly project should be seen more as performance art than the creation of an oeuvre. An illustration of today's hectic workplace: Never stop to think, do your thinking while working on the next pictures, hurry, hurry, production numbers are down, can't have that.  Ah, whatever...

All these staring people

My main source of inspiration: All the thousands of people, mostly Finnish, who have stared at me with an expression that said "What the hell is that?" At my present pace of 20,000 faces per year, it will take me another couple of decades to exorcise them.

Posterity is a bitch

The heroes of the 19th century Paris Salons, rich and successful in their day, are all forgotten today, while the impressionists they laughed at - those unskilled daubers who just threw paint at canvas and never added finishing touches to them - are regarded as the essential artists of their time. So worrying whether your art will be seen as worthy when you're gone is a complete waste of time.
You choose a set of values to guide your work and let posterity pick its own.
